The UAB Project celebrates a rare, multidisciplinary, creative practice that may become endangered through lack of knowledge and accessibility. Many fragile, invaluable artists’ books in public collections are rarely seen outside the vaults in which they reside. Few Canadians experience these precious books and the practices that create them. UAB will generously display this publicly owned treasure. Bilingual education programs, print and web publications will invite diverse audiences to share the little-known creative practice in accessible contexts with new ideas. Video interviews with artists and experts in library and studio settings will expand public awareness of artists’ books.
All regions of Canada and most media will be represented in final selections. UAB will explore the rich spectrum of this artistic practice, highlighting its significant contribution to contemporary visual art.
